DIVING INTO THE PAST
AQUATIC CENTER
This project is a variation created from the Temple of Minerva, located in Rome. The inner dome has been scaled up transforming the original temple from that of three separate spaces into one larger space. This helps to emphasize the two most important aspects of this building, the dome and pool..
EGRET PARK SHRIMP
LOS ANGELES RIVER PARK OVERLOOK
This project cantilevering over the Los Angeles river, in Egret Park. sat on three structural points, two on the park and one on the slope embankment of the river. The Build turned away from the south to help block against strong sunlight.
UNCONVENTIONAL STACKS
MULTI STORY HOUSING COMPLEX AND LIBRARY
(Housing and Blank) Through a critical analysis and comparison of the historical, contemporary, and multi-cultural evolution of house and housing, the juxtaposition of interior vs. exterior space, public vs. private space, community vs. the individual, and traditional vs. non-traditional families. This project integrates an evolved housing space with that of a library.
THE NARRATIVE VIEW
JULIUS SHULMAN MUSEUM
A museum to house the many works of Julius Shulman, renowned author, photographer, and innovator in the way that we perceive architecture. The building is broken up in a way the allows one to take a journey expressed through different views, while still embracing the views of the architecture.
GOOD JUNK
INHABITABLE LANDFILL
This project encapsulates the idea of a landfill becoming a habitable space. Using the Igualada Cemetery as a precedent, located in Barcelona. Garbage filled pockets become the structural walls to support habitable spaces. Using drainage as a means to test the way in which water moves and through soil, a discovery was made on how to build.
Illustrated above are these drainage tests. The large pocket spaces serve as the areas to be filled with garbage while the channels in between serve as the habitable zones.
BRIDGE THE GAP
HOMELESS RECREATION CENTER
Bridge the Gap is a homeless shelter and recreational park. the twist here though is that the site attempts to re-inject the homeless into society by giving them work and showcasing their efforts as public artwork. Through the means of maintaining, growing, and building with bamboo.
S.OIL R.ENEWAL O.CCUPANCY
SINGLE RESIDENT OCCUPANCY’S / SOIL MANUFACTURING FACILITY
Los Angeles needs 516,946 additional housing units to meet existing demand. Single Resident Occupancy units would permit high density in a small footprint. This project interlocks a soil manufacturing facility with single resident occupancy units.
Through the process of manufacturing soil, using a combination of bioreactors and organic carbon engines. This project can produce 6 tons of biomass per day and produce 93,182 kwh of energy. This is enough energy to run the facility and combination of 510 Micro Units/S.R.O’s off grid. Any Excess energy produced is then distributed throughout the city, allowing the facility to showcase its ability in an urban context.
WOOD WORKING
Below is Kawai Tsugite, Japanese Joint, that I hand cut using a traditional Japanese saw. It is created using a series of 45 degree cuts and hand chiseling the inner leftover remains. This joint requires two identical pieces to function, so the precision of my handmade cuts needed to be exact. The beauty of this joint when completed is that it can inter lock two ways. One demonstrated on the right, creating an “L” shape. Two demonstrated on the bottom left, creating an “I” shape
METAL WORK AND STONE WORK
Below is a custom joint created using both metal and marble. 1/8” thick galvanized steel strips form the cage portion and solid marble, cut from a kitchen top, forms the other portion. The cage allows for the reveal of the inter mechanism that allows this joint to interlock It was developed using the knowledge gained from making the Kawai Tsugite joint above
